Nigerian Immigration Launches Digital Portal for Passports Booking, Renewal, Visas, and More

In a bid to modernize travel documentation processes and ease access for citizens, the Nigerian Ministry of Interior, through the Immigration Service, has launched a digital portal. The portal will offer convenient self-service options for a range of traveling services, including passport booking, renewal, and visa applications.

No longer will Nigerians need to navigate long queues or face the administrative hurdles that often plagued the traditional system.

The new portal promises a streamlined and transparent experience, empowering individuals to initiate and track their passport and visa applications from the comfort of their homes or anywhere with an internet connection.

“This is a pivotal moment for travel facilitation in Nigeria,” declared the Minister of Interior, Dr Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo. “With this digital portal, we are ushering in a new era of efficiency and customer-centricity. From booking appointments to submitting documents and following application progress, every step is now designed to be intuitive and accessible.”

The initial launch will cater to Nigerian citizens residing within the country, with plans to expand access to diaspora communities in the near future.

For the next two months, applicants on the portal will still have to visit our offices for their data capturing. But, from March, this will no longer be necessary. They will be able to upload some biometrics online for verification purposes against their NIN data. This will be especially useful for our people in the diaspora, Dr. TUNJI OJO explained.

This phased approach ensures a smooth roll-out and allows for adjustments based on user feedback.

The digital portal launch is lauded by many as a positive step towards improving travel document accessibility and reducing bureaucratic bottlenecks.

It is expected to significantly decrease processing times, enhance transparency, and ultimately, ease the journey for Nigerians seeking passports, visas, and other immigration services.

The future of travel documentation in Nigeria looks bright, with the Immigration Service at the forefront of digital transformation.

This new portal marks a significant leap towards a more efficient and user-friendly system, paving the way for smoother travel experiences for Nigerians at home and abroad. To start using the new portal, visit passport.immigration.gov.ng/ on your device’s browser.
