NIMC and IDEMIA partner to upgrade Biometric system

This initiative will help revolutionize Nigeria’s Biometric landscape. NIMC will be upgrading its Biometric System with IDEMIA Smart Identity. Know more.

In a landmark agreement, IDEMIA Smart Identity and the National Identity Management Commission (NIMC) are set to revolutionize Nigeria’s biometric system, aiming to rival global standards like India’s Aadhaar.

The upgraded biometric matching system will handle a staggering 1 million 1:1 and 1:N identity verification searches per day. Originally designed for 100 million records, the system’s expansion is crucial to encompass Nigeria’s entire population, with around 90 million records already logged.

NIMC’s strategic move not only aligns with the United Nations’ Sustainable Development Goals, targeting legal identity for all by 2030 but also ensures compliance with OSIA, enabling seamless connectivity across the identity management ecosystem.

Olivier Charlanes, Senior Vice President of Middle East and Africa at IDEMIA Smart Identity, emphasizes the collaboration’s significance in empowering Nigeria’s citizens with secure, trusted identities, showcasing IDEMIA’s capability to deploy cutting-edge technologies at a massive scale.

Engr. Abisoye Coker-Odusote, CEO of NIMC, echoes the sentiment, highlighting the natural choice of partnering with IDEMIA Smart Identity to deliver best-in-class solutions tailored to Nigeria’s evolving needs.

As Nigeria strides towards digital empowerment and universal legal identity, the collaboration between IDEMIA and NIMC stands as a beacon of progress, showcasing a new era in identity management.
